It seems for Perth, a City that's in the middle of Austalia's mining boom, the bigger the better, especially when it comes to a story involving a giant, or two.
‘The Incredible and Phenomenal Journey of the Giants’ landed in Perth yesterday as part of this year’s International Arts Festival. The giant performance piece is the largest art event Australia has ever hosted and the brain child of Jean-Luc Courcoult, Author, Artistic Director and Founder of Royal de Luxe, a street theatre company specialising in large-scale street theatre and storytelling. The streets of Perth become a stage for the 3 day masterpiece which follows two giants as their worlds collide in another time.
The CBD has been packed with visitors flocking to catch a glimpse of the two giants, a 6 metre tall ‘little girl’ and 11 metre tall diver. An estimated 140,000 visitors on Friday and over 400,000 on Saturday visited the performance with more planned for the final act tomorrow.
It’s been a massive success for the City and Festival organisers, and with a team of 25 people pulling strings on the ‘little girl’, it’s also an amazing logistical accomplishment.
